Save a Facebook video

In this OSINT tutorial we explain how you can save a video from Facebook in just a few steps.

If you do research on Facebook, it may happen that you want to save an encountered video. There are of course several tools available that can do this for you, but we are happy to explain how you can save a video yourself. Why? First of all, because you do not know what happens to your data when you use a tool. Secondly, because from now on you can save videos yourself, even in situations when tools no longer work. And thirdly, because this is legally easier to justify.

How to save a video on Facebook

To save a video on Facebook, you must go through the following steps:

STEP 1: go to the video that you want to save. We have taken the video “Amsterdam at Night” as an example. Click here to go to this video.

STEP 2: right-click anywhere on the video and then select “Show video URL“. Copy this URL, open a new tab and paste the URL here. You will now see the page of the video. Click here for an example.

STEP 3: change the URL “www” to “mbasic” and click “Enter” on your keyboard. The video is now loaded in a new screen. Click here for an example.

STEP 4: click on the play button of the video to play the video. A new tab will now be opened automatically. Then click pause again. If you now click on the right mouse button, change “www” to “mbasic” in the URL and click on “Enter” on your keyboard. The video is now loaded in a new screen. Then click on the right mouse button and on “Save video as“. Click here for an example.
